Peter Dawson
Peter Dawson was first admitted as a Barrister in 1968, and as a Solicitor in 1970. In 1972 he opened his own firm, “Peter Dawson & Co” at Blacktown and by 1974 that firm also operated branch offices at Burwood and Katoomba.
From 1977 Peter again practised as a Barrister, specialising in criminal and family law, and he served two terms as an Acting Crown Prosecutor before returning to practice as a Solicitor in 1998.
In 2003 Peter acquired the practices of “Philip Davies & Co” and “John Cartwright & Co” and the amalgamated firm is called “Peter Dawson & Associates” with offices at Round Corner and Mount Druitt. Peter is also a Notary Public.
Peter’s interests away from work have always been in volunteer service, and his appointments include:-
- Life Governor of the N.S.W. Public Health Care Foundation;
- Trustee and Life Member of the Australian Lions-Quest Youth Foundation;
- Founder of the Parramatta Community Aid Panel;
- Corporate General Manager of Lions Australia from1995-1998;
- President 1996-2001 and Life Member of Quest Life Skills Australia, a non-profit provider of educational programs for schoolchildren;
- From 1996-2001 he was a member of the Volunteers Advisory Committee for the Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games;
- From 1998-2002 he served as Chairman of the NSW Paralympic Committee; •
- Since 1981 Peter has been a judge and adviser to the N.S.W. Law Society Mock Trial program for schools, and has adjudicated at the grand final of that competition;
- In 2000 he was honoured to be one of the very few people to be selected to carry both the Olympic and Paralympic torches.
- Peter has served 8 years on the Executive at both Dural and Mt Druitt Chambers of Commerce and was President of the Dural Chamber from 2003-2006 and again in 2011.
- Peter served as Chairman of the Bid Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Host Committee for the 2010 Lions Clubs International Convention, the largest Convention ever held in Sydney (15,000 delegates).
Peter has received from an extensive array of awards from Lions Clubs including the International President’s Medal, the International Leadership Award and the Lions Australia Outstanding Service Award.
